Invasion of the body snatchers

It has been a rough week at the Drennan household. Apparently sometime around Thursday night aliens landed in the backyard and pulled a switch-a-roo, taking our sweet, happy baby back with them and leaving us with what can only be described as a hot mess.

Ryder had is 4 month well child check on Tuesday morning. Oh he is doing well, weighs 15 pounds, 6 ounces (47%) and is 26 inches long (86%). His head is 17 inches around (85%) which still doesn't explain why all his 3 month hats are too big. He isn't rolling over yet, which he is supposed to do at 4 months. I was going to lie about it until they put him on his stomach and wanted a demonstration. They must be catching onto me. We are to start him on rice cereal, which sounds like it is going to be messy at best but a good photo opp. And of course there were those pesky shots.

One hour after his appointment, I left for Texas for work meetings for two nights. This was the first time I have been away from him overnight, thus the first time Trent was home alone with him all night. Bad timing? Extremely.

On Wednesday afternoon daycare called Trent, Ryder was running a fever and he needed to be picked up. He couldn't go back to daycare for 24 hours. And I was stuck in Texas.

Trent was a rockstar, he took care of Ryder all by himself. His mom came over Wednesday evening but he spent the night alone with him.

I got home Thursday, the Tylenol had helped and the fever was down. Ryder was almost back to his old self. He slept pretty well that night, only up once from 230 to 330 for a bottle. Friday morning the fever was back, more Tylenol and Trent stayed home with him again.

Something happened on Friday. Our sweet baby who never cries turned into a crying, whining, must-be-held-at-all-times baby. He cries the second you try to put him down. He cries when you are holding him. He cries when you try to give him a bottle. He cries when he doesn't have a bottle. He has pretty much cried solid since Friday. All this from a baby who never cries. I actually checked his jammies to see if there were hot needles poking him in the back causing the screams when we lay him down. He won't go to sleep. He certainly won't stay asleep.

So I don't know what the problem is. Maybe it is from the shots, maybe it is from the fever, maybe he is just sick of living with us ... but it is wearing me out.  Here is hoping the aliens don't like the peace and quiet that is my baby and they bring him back soon ... or they come for me instead.
